A. SURRENDER YOUR DAY TO GOD
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Ps.37:5-7.
The little words, “commit” and “rest” are of great importance. They form the divide into your daily walk with the Lord. By committing the things to God which we are powerless to change and resting in the sure knowledge that “He will work all things together for our good” (Rom. 8:28). We bring divine order to each day. Come before the Lord each day and say Jesus I want to talk to you about today. Then you tell Him what you are concerned about. Describe your day to Him point by point people, places, events, decisions etc. There are always things that come our way that we don’t expect. That is why we never seem to get everything done that we have planned. It is encouraging to remember that God is never caught off guard by the unexpected. Our plans and purposes may be failing, but never His. Nothing will ever be total waste or lose if we give our life and day back to the Lord every morning.
B. SHOW CHILD-LIKE NEED
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. (Prov.3:6-7)
In all thy ways acknowledge him or know him, the Lord set him before thee, have him always in view consider him as ever present with thee, observing every step thou takest and take not one step without leave, and without his advice; ask wisdom of him who gives liberally consult his word and make the scriptures thy counselors, or the men of thy counsel, as in Psalm 119:24; take him as your guide; observe the footsteps of his providence follow the Lamb wherever he goes; walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit; when things go cross, and adverse and not to your mind, submit to his sovereignty and be still and know that he is God, that does all things right for his own glory and his people’s good, Psalms 46:10; and when things succeed, give him the glory of all own his hand his hand in it, and the bounty of it acknowledge that all your have in providence and grace, come from him. And he shall direct thy paths man cannot direct his own, no not a man this is a blessing from the Lord who steps of his people keeps the feet of his saints and directs them aright in things temporal and spiritual (Jeremiah 10:23)
C. ASK FOR SPECIFIC GUIDANCE
Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. (Psalms 25:4-5)
When we sin, we’re forsaking God’s ways and his paths to tread on those of our own making. What we need is to be shown how to live God’s way. We need him to renew our mind and help us understand what he wants and how to live. And let’s consider where we find God’s ways and paths and his truth. It’s in the Bible. After we’ve sinned, then, don’t avoid the Bible. Immerse yourself in it. It’s here where we find God’s self-revelation. And it’s a basic activity that David himself demonstrates to us as an example of what to do after you’ve sinned. And then David recognizes once more – maybe through his time in the word – who God is. He’s the God of his salvation. The God who delivers his people. And praise him that we have such a God who delivers us – even after we’ve sinned. And then our proper response is a confident waiting on and relying upon this saving God. David waited on this God and relied on him all the day.
In this case, I did keep my words to myself and felt the approval of the Holy Spirit. It is a good feeling to know that our attitude and action was pleasing to the Lord. The point I want you to get is this; my ability to exercise self-control came from my morning prayer time. I had ordered my day before the Lord, and had prayed, Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalms 19:14). If we ask the Lord for specific guidance at the beginning of the day, He will faithfully direct us in all the details that will come our way the long.
