To Destroy the works of Devil and His kingdom
The devil’s kingdom is a kingdom of darkness and all his works are from that realm. Sin, sickness, disease, death and bondage are the works of the devil. Jesus came to destroy them all and bring mankind out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light (I John 3:5-8; Romans 13:12; Ephesians 5:11; Galatian 5:19; Hebrews 2:14-15; John 12:31; 14:30; Revelation 20:10-15. Notice that this was done by Christ’s appearing.
The focus is on his coming, not on his resurrection as might be expected. Why was the incarnation necessary to defeat Satan? Because Satan must be defeated in the arena he dominates, this world. So Christ was sent into this would destroy Satan’s works.
